Parents surround health workers who advocate for masks in schools: “We know who you are”
A group of parents from Tennessee surrounded medical professionals outside of a school board meeting on Tuesday, after advocating for a mask mandate in the local school district, Tennessee reports.
According to video posted on social networks, a group of parents from Franklin, Tenn., surrounded healthcare workers as they left a building at a Williamson County School District Board meeting.
The footage shows parents chanting “we will not comply” as workers exit through the building’s doors. Some parents are seen yelling obscenities at a medical professional as he walks to the parking lot. A woman can be heard shouting “take off this mask!” ”
As footage continues, an unmasked man in a black shirt can be seen yelling at the health worker who got into his car.
âYou are not on our side! he shouts. “We know who you are.”
Another man in a long-sleeved blue shirt confronted the driver.
âWe know who you are. You can go freely, but we will find you, âhe said, pointing to the window on the driver’s side.

The showdown between parents and medical staff comes after Williamson County Schools (WCS) voted on Tuesday to institute a mask term for students and faculty in their district, according to the Tennessean.
Some of the parents in the district said the mask’s warrant amounted to child abuse, according to the footage.
The four-hour school board meeting drew crowds of anti-mask protesters, including former sports journalist and conservative political commentator Clay Travis, who has children attending district schools, the Tennessean reported.
Another video showed a protester was escorted out of the building during the meeting by local authorities for being disruptive. Other protesters followed suit, also leaving the board meeting.

In a statement to The Hill, WSC said parents were âpassionateâ about raising their children, but added that there was âno excuse for incivilityâ.
“We serve over 40,000 students and employ over 5,000 staff. Our families and staff represent a wide variety of thoughts and beliefs, and it is important in our District that all families and staff have the opportunity to be represented and respected. We will continue to work to ensure that all voices are heard and that all families, staff and community members feel safe sharing their opinions, âthe school district continued.
The United States is currently facing a wave of COVID-19 cases amid the spread of the highly transmissible delta variant. The disease has hit unvaccinated pockets of the United States the hardest, and federal health officials say the majority of deaths and hospitalizations are among the unvaccinated.
WCS’s new mask mandate will take effect Thursday with the return of the school board to vote to extend the measure on September 20, the Tennessean noted.
The Hill reached out to Williamson County Sheriff’s Office for comment and more information.
