More than 70 health workers complete their second clinical training program
Doha: Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) commitment to empowering patients and improving outcomes of care in support of Qatar’s national health strategy culminates in successful second training program clinical health coach.
This year, more than 70 nurses, patient educators, pharmacists and dieticians from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) completed the second round of training.
The new programme, first launched in 2019, is one of joint initiatives between the MoPH, HMC and PHCC, which aims to improve the ability of healthcare staff to motivate, empower and support patients to play a active role in managing their condition(s). The inaugural meeting included a leadership awareness session for senior clinical and non-clinical leaders and experts from all organizations that have championed the initiative.w
“The innovative practice of health coaching is essential to support positive behavior change and adopt a healthier lifestyle. This training program emphasizes a person-centered approach proven to improve the health of people with multiple chronic conditions, and is the first public health initiative of its kind to be launched in the Middle East. said Dr. Maryam Alemadi, National Lead for Improving the Health of People with Multiple Chronic Conditions and Director of Clinical Operations at the Primary Health Care Corporation.
The training program fully aligns with the National Health Outcome “Improved health of people with multiple chronic diseases” outlined in the Qatar National Health Strategy 2018-2022. One of the primary goals of this public health priority area is to empower patients with multiple chronic conditions with the knowledge and skills to improve their own health. A leadership awareness session was held in the Hajar Auditorium with senior clinical and executive staff from PHCC and HMC whose attendance demonstrated the importance of the program and their recognition of the value it adds to patients and the staff.
“We are excited to continue growing the clinical health coaching program in Qatar. This comprehensive training program plays a vital role in improving individual health, well-being and quality of life, which will ultimately lead to better community health,” said Mr. Mahmoud Al Raisi, Head of Continuing Care Group at Hamad Medical Corporation. “The program is based on the concept that in order to promote effective population health, patients must be appropriately involved in their care and that healthcare professionals can learn to encourage their patients to be more involved in their care.
