Maple Ridge resident criticizes MP’s support for uninfected healthcare workers – Maple Ridge News
D: [MP asks Horgan to reconsider vax mandate for health-care workers, mapleridgenews.com, March 8]
This article confused me. After praising Mr. Horgan for his leadership, Mr. Dalton goes on to say that he (Mr. Horgan) was wrong? That’s what I read? If Mr. Dalton is representing his supporters, I wonder what percentage of everyone who voted for him is unvaccinated?
You can “stand up for the health care professionals”, Mr. Dalton, but you seem to forget that it was the health care professionals who made these decisions. As for the patients, if the vaccine “protects them from the worst side effects”, wouldn’t it make sense to be vaccinated rather than die? How many unvaccinated healthcare workers who see multiple people every day have transmitted COVID-19? Majority of deaths have been people over 70 – are we replaceable?
May I suggest that you and your unvaccinated supporters walk in the shoes of the doctors and nurses who have to care for the unvaccinated. Of course, there are people who leave their jobs. Have you worked five 12 hour shifts with only a 10 or 15 minute break because you know someone is waiting for their medication? Have you heard of a doctor after 16 hours on duty, telling his nurse “I’m sorry, I can’t go on” with tears in his eyes? Do you know a nurse who tried to register an unvaccinated patient who wouldn’t keep her mask on and was coughing in her face, who later tested positive and then brought COVID back to her husband and child? Oh but those were “mild symptoms”.
My daughter is a nurse, and sometimes for her sanity, I’m her sounding board, and yes, she would quit, but then there’s the patient who gets vaccinated who smiles and says “thank you.”
Mr. Dalton, I’m so disappointed in you. We have met a few times, I have listened to you speak, your children and my grandchildren have gone to school together, you are still with our Legion on Remembrance Day. I thought our values were compatible, so I voted for the man, not the party. It seems to me that I was wrong.
Mr. Corbett, you have done your job of balancing the facts with the very disturbing beliefs of non-vaccines.
